You have been through the crucible and come out the other side fully aware of the implications of data access.

Annonymous, you are correct that The AIDS crises was also a time of great change. We are again in a time of great change. The events that unfold now are fluid, but could soon become a cement. Yes, HIT existed before HITECH, but the application of Meaningful USE was a game changer. Very few systems were talking about data access while hospitalized, and now that is changing. I do not know your advocacy mission. But I know mine. When everything went wrong my husband's care and were thrown into the abyss of sorrow, I saw a light and it came from a computer screen.Regina Hollidayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14067714192642008661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993740852730466692.post-51305415966767874242012-02-25T02:17:08.539-08:002012-02-25T02:17:08.539-08:00"I will always stress the interpretation of h..."I will always stress the interpretation of health information technology as the most vital element to support patient engagement."

You must be kidding right? During the AIDS crisis they changed health care pretty dramatically and it dint' have anything to do with technology.

You are speaking at HIMSS on their 50th anniversary. Did you go to the events before HITECH? They were almost as big 3 years ago.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993740852730466692.post-24459833942981162692012-02-23T10:18:45.083-08:002012-02-23T10:18:45.083-08:00Right you are, Regina. We learned from the 2010 CHCF study into patients' use of PHRs that once they were exposed to the data, people got more involved in their care and asked more questions...yet another example of your ability to capture a complex aspect of our fragmented health system in a snapshot moment...@healthythinkerhttp://healthpopuli.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993740852730466692.post-39794918649468424802012-02-23T09:21:20.460-08:002012-02-23T09:21:20.460-08:00Health Information Technology is the catalyst that...Health Information Technology is the catalyst that allows us to push patient access and engagement forward. Data integrity, interoperability, MU and eRX allow us to reduce errors, improve communication and " connect" patient and providers in the continuum of care. Its simply amazing how far we've come. Progress, not Perfection. But, I'll take it!!! Good luck today, Reggie. I have no doubt that you will enlighten, engage and INSPIRE!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13614276590895111887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993740852730466692.post-46436095899422062622012-02-23T08:58:44.717-08:002012-02-23T08:58:44.717-08:00Go Regina!

(Fact: the patient began smoking at age 36 and averages just one pack per day.) This error could have been construed by a private insurance company as a reason to drop coverage for an untruth and placed the patient in real financial peril. Patients really do want to work with their medical team. Why treat us otherwise?
http://fida-advocate.blogspot.com/Joleen Chambershttp://fida-advocate.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
