I love this lesson Fred taught you.
&q...Regina,

I love this lesson Fred taught you.

" I learned that life is defined by the work that we do and it is important to show up and do a good job."

Every time I'm with you I try to keep up but in the end your pace is simply beyond me. I've seen you with so little sleep, working so hard physically and emotionally. You are the leader of our pack who keeps us determined, strong, passionate and on the right path. The story you and Fred just shared with us is a powerful reminder that for you and so many of us it's not about the money, it's about the work.
kntsplhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01245760031988078980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993740852730466692.post-78019021946234970232012-10-12T13:10:09.650-07:002012-10-12T13:10:09.650-07:00Thank you Ann. I c...What an amazingly touching, beautiful tribute. I can only thank you for sharing such a personal, emotionally charged story with the rest of the world, it is a tremendous lesson in the importance of living 'in the moment' and of not squandering the opportunities that life provides you, particularly when it comes to receiving an education.

I taught for almost twenty years - and still do in many ways, though not professionally anymore - and understand your consternation and rage at the students who lost marks merely by 'not showing up'. It is maddening and disheartening - and, many times, teachers will blame themselves for their student's failures, even when it was not their fault. I taught a class (grade 9 guitar - grade nine high school - at night school) in which one student ended up failing - and not graduating (he needed an 'arts' credit to graduate), all because he had missed too many classes. For a long time I felt as though I had failed him - that I had stopped him from graduating - but the truth of the matter was that HE failed himself.

Your husband sounds like a man who gave each of his students a great opportunity to succeed - those that didn't only have themselves to blame. He had office hours for them to ask questions and email to contact him - there's no excuse to cheat, it's the ultimate expression of laziness and shows contempt for the whole idea of getting an education, not to mention the lack of respect it shows for the professor.

It is a privilege to have had this opportunity to read about such a wonderfully dedicated teacher; we need more like him.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14917517595461617547noreply@blogger.com
